Council highlights for August 8, 2022:

  • Town Trolley Supports Farmer’s Market and Downtown Shopping
    An initial trial of a hop on/hop off trolley from the downtown to the Farmer’s market was very successful. The trial was part of a proposed suites of programs to bolster the revitalization of the downtown.
  • Trail Sustainability Fund Launches at Trailheads
    Permit parking has launched at Trailheads on Conc. 6 and Conc. 7 south of Reg. Rd. 21 and on Houston Rd.
  • Lions Fundraising Voluntary Road Toll Coming this September
    Council approved a request by the Lions Club to operate their annual Lions Voluntary Road Toll on Friday, Sept. 23 from 4:00 7:00 pm and on Saturday, Sept.24 from 9am 5pm. The toll will take place in the exit of commercial parking areas on Hwy 47.
  • Terry Fox Run approved for Sept 18
    Council supported a request to close roads to host the Terry Fox run on the morning of Sept 18th. Conc. 7 will be closed from Bell St. to Reg. Rd. 21 and Brookdale Rd will be closed from Conc. 7 to Foxfire Estates.
  • No Parking on Elgin Park Drive at Trail Entrance
    Council supported a recommendation from Public Works to prohibit parking at the Elgin Park entrance to the Countryside Preserve as vehicles parked in that area would block the multi use pathway.
  • Downtown Parkette to be Refurbished
    As part of the Downtown Revitalization Project, the BIA presented a proposal to renovate the parkette at 23 Brock St. to create a place that attracts people and acts as a hub for downtown activity. Council supported the proposal and work will begin immediately.
  • Stone and Brick Masonry Restoration Approved for Library
    Council accepted a staff recommendation to make repairs on sections of the stone and brick of the Library.
