Council highlights for January 10, 2022:

  • Region Establishing A Municipal Services Corporation to Build and Operate A Regional Broadband Network
    The Region is seeking approval of the plan to establish a Corporation to build and operate a Regional Broadband Network. The Network aims to bring high-speed fibre connectivity to underserved communities across Durham. The proposed open-access network allows multiple service providers to use a common underlying fibre infrastructure.
  • Region to Study Responsibility for Street-Lighting on Regional Roads
    Council received a report outlining a proposed study to review jurisdictional responsibilities for streetlighting on Regional Roads.
  • Council Questions Municipal Growth Trend Report
    Council questioned a report from Durham Region estimating populations and households in each Regional Municipality. Council voted to have a representative from the Regional Planning and Economic Development Division clarify the details of the report at a future Council meeting.
  • Council Supports Nourish and Develop Foundation Shelter Build
    Council supported the request for a letter of support from the Nourish and Develop Foundation in Cannington.
