Council highlights for May 9, 2022:

Grand Opening for Jumpstart Multisport Court May 14th
A free community BBQ is taking place May 14th from 11:30-1:30 at the Jumpstart Multisport Court on Capstick Lane. The Parks Department has recently installed new plantings at the site.
Classic Car Show Returns to Elgin Park on Thursday Evenings
The Bonner Boys Cruise-In returns to Elgin Park on Thursday evenings beginning May 19th. The Cruise In starts at 5:00pm and is a fundraiser for the Bonner Boys community service work.
June is Bike Month In Canada
Council will proclaim June as Bike Month. On Wed. June 1, the Township Active Transportation Committee will host a Bike Month kick-off in the Brock St. parkette from 3-5pm with information about a Bike Month Bingo contest, and bike education, information and maintenance support.
Council Discusses Bill 109, More Homes for Everyone Act, 2022
Based on a report from the Region of Durham, Council elected to learn more about Bill 109 to understand the impact of changes on future growth planning within the Township of Uxbridge.
Council Extends Moratorium on New Drug Addiction/Harm Reduction Facilities
Council accepted a Development Services Report recommendation to extend the Interim Control By-law 2021-059 for an additional year. The By-law prohibits establishment of Drug Addiction Treatment and Harm Reduction Facilities including Methadone Dispensaries until staff can establish a establish a planning policy and regulatory framework.
BIA Proposes Window Treatments for Vacant Downtown Stores
Council voted to permit a sign by-law exemption to the BIA to allow window clings to be installed in windows of vacant businesses downtown. The graphics will promote local tourism.
