Whitchurch-Stouffville has stepped up in a big way to support Uxbridge residents impacted by the Tornado on May 21st. Mayor Dave Barton, and Uxbridge Rotarian Ron Hunter were in Stouffville on June 10th to accept a cheque from Whitchurch-Stouffville Legacy Fund (WSLF) Board of Directors for $25,000 for Tornado relief efforts.

“It is hard to express our appreciation and gratitude for your support”, stated Uxbridge Mayor Dave Barton.” We have always enjoyed a collegial and productive relationship with Whitchurch-Stouffville. The fact that you have stood shoulder to shoulder with us, as our residents recover is a mark of how caring and exceptional your municipality is. On behalf of our residents, I thank you sincerely for your generosity and support.”

Mayor Barton also thanked Mayor Iain Lovatt for his ongoing support for Uxbridge and offered him a certificate naming him an Honourary Citizen of Uxbridge.

The funds will be deposited with the Rotary Club of Uxbridge Charitable Foundation who is dispersing the money through charitable organizations who are supporting residents who have been displaced and require community support. The Whitchurch-Stouffville Legacy Fund (WSLF) was created to help support the financial needs and efforts of local service groups and charities who work to enrich the lives of Whitchurch-Stouffville residents. The WSLF is also dispersing aid to Whitchurch-Stouffville residents who were impacted by the storm.

The EF2 Tornado that touched down in Uxbridge smashed a 4 km path through residential areas and the downtown. Three apartment buildings were deemed unsafe to occupy. At least 40 families were displaced pending repairs to buildings. A number of Municipal facilities, a train yard, a brewery and two churches were also heavily damaged.
