What is the Trail Sustainability Fund?
With over 300km of trails, Uxbridge is designated the Trail Capital of Canada. The trail system within the Township of Uxbridge sees over 100,000 visitors annually and this number is predicted to grow. With the increase in trail traffic, it has become more difficult for the municipality, landowners, land managers, and volunteer groups to keep up with the pace and costs of necessary maintenance, visitor amenities and services. Over the last year, The Trail Sustainability program has developed in partnership with the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA), the Toronto Region Conservation Authority (TRCA), and Region of Durham to fund enhanced services and amenities with 100% of the revenue from the permit parking going into a fund for future infrastructure at the trail sites, maintenance, and improvements. Within the application it will also see trail users who pay for parking using their smartphone, actively receiving notifications and/or promotions or discounts for local shops, restaurants, cafes, and farmers markets throughout the Township. The Township and our partners recognize the need to keep Uxbridge Trails beautiful for years to come and to showcase all the wonderful amenities available to users outside of the trail system.
