Government of Canada supports Uxbridge BIA through the Tourism Relief Fund

The Township of Uxbridge BIA received a non-repayable contribution of $100,000 from Central Counties Tourism to boost economic viability of the downtown by provide a welcoming experience for visitors. This is part of the Government of Canada’s Tourism Relief Fund, delivered by the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario). Central Counties Tourism received $8.65 million from FedDev Ontario to help local tourism organizations and businesses safely welcome back visitors, recover from the impacts of the pandemic and prepare for future growth.   

This investment is helping the Township of Uxbridge revitalize the downtown and will support economic recovery through tourism as the community adapts and recovers from the effects of the pandemic. Some of the funded projects include, rejuvenating the Brock Street Parkette, providing weekend access to public washrooms; the “Hop-on / Hop-off” trolley experience during the summer months; and, once again, being able to provide the “Santa Hut” to the residents of Uxbridge.

The Township of Uxbridge has a vibrant tourism sector that is vital to the economy, providing jobs locally and throughout the Region of Durham. Known as the “Trail Capital of Canada,” the Township is pleased to be welcoming back cyclists, trail visitors and day-trippers from the GTA for our shopping, dining, nature and small-town experiences.   

This investment will help businesses in the local BIA and area adapt and recover to attract new visitors and drive economic growth in York, Durham, and Headwaters regions.
