Hello, fellow business owners and Uxbridge BIA members!

I’m pleased to introduce myself as your new BIA Board Chair. I accepted this 1-year term at the inaugural meeting of the new term of our volunteer board of management on April 24, and I look forward to helping make our town a great place to do business. Let’s all work together!

(Need some fast facts about BIAs and how they work? You’re not alone! Here’s a 10-minute video to walk you through!)

My role is primarily to keep order at our monthly BIA meetings, and ensure our board is on track to make important budgetary and strategic decisions for the benefit of all BIA members. I would also like to prioritize communicating with members, collaborating with organizations such as Uxbridge Tourism and the Downtown Revitalization Committee, and advocating for business-area improvements
that we’ll all benefit from.

On the communications front:

  • If you haven’t already, please join our private Facebook group! I’ve given it a little spruce-up and updated the name to “Uxbridge Ontario BIA Members”, for clarity. Join here.
  • Watch for periodic surveys in your email in box! I’d like to collect your feedback on various issues impacting business owners in Uxbridge, to share with our board and to help guide our work.
  • Want to get more involved in the BIA? Our monthly meetings are open to all - the schedule can be found here! And if you’re interested in joining the board, we’d love to have you apply for future openings.

I’m stepping into big shoes previously filled by magnificent boss-lady Christina Curry – please join me in thanking her and past board members for their hard work during the pandemic closures – no easy task.

And if you don’t already know Julia Shipcott, she is our brilliant BIA Board Administrator! A part-time employee, Julia works Tuesdays and Fridays to keep us all organized and compliant.

Meet your new board and catch up on our latest work here.

Uxbridge Secondary School is hosting its 100-year Anniversary reunion in just a few weeks

Mark May 26-28 on your calendar! It’s a fantastic opportunity for us to dress up our storefronts and put out the welcome mats with homecoming specials. We’ll be festooning BIA light posts with the official USS colours of black and gold, as well as producing a trifold brochure promoting our BIA business, to be handed out to riders on the downtown trolley all weekend.

750-1,000 EXPECTED ATTENDEES!

THE BIA IS CREATING A REGISTRATION BAG INSERT PROMOTING DOWNTOWN BUSINESSES. Anyone who is interested in providing a special offer or discount, and who has not already done so, please contact Julia @ bia@uxbridge.ca by Friday, May 18th.

Springtide Music Festival

Returns to our downtown June 9-11! This year, organizers have put together hotel packages to encourage out of town visitors to stay as late as they want and get to their accommodations safely – all while keeping car traffic out of town! Find out more here, and spread the word about this festival designed to spread the joy of music and stimulate business in our downtown core.

'Til we meet on the street,
Cheers!

Joanne
