The Townships of Scugog and Uxbridge are very pleased to announce that the Estate of Marlyn Ruth Rennie has made an extremely generous donation of $1,100,674 to the Uxbridge-Scugog Animal Shelter.

The donation brings the amount of funds available for a new shelter to more than $2,800,000. This total includes the Rennie donation, the NASUS (New Animal Shelter for Uxbridge and Scugog) donation, private donations, as well as interest earned and the Township’s of Scugog and Uxbridge’s pledged amounts.

“The generosity of Marlyn Ruth Rennie is deeply appreciated”, states Mayor Dave Barton. “Her legacy will live on and will impact generations of animals in need.”

Scugog Mayor Wilma Wotten applauds Marlyn Ruth Rennie “We extend a sincere thank you for this remarkable legacy donation. This is a very special gift and will help in our efforts to bring the community closer to seeing a new shelter.”

The donation from the Rennie estate can build on fundraising efforts from NASUS and private donors who rallied the communities of Scugog and Uxbridge between 2011 and 2018 to donate over $750,000 for the construction of a new animal shelter.  Through signature fundraising events and small grassroots efforts, hundreds of people contributed time and funds to support a new shelter build.

The Township of Uxbridge and The Township of Scugog will seek to undertake a cost analysis to assess project feasibility and next steps. A page is dedicated to project updates at https://www.uxbridge.ca/en/living-here/animal-control.aspx.
