The Township of Uxbridge is pleased to announce that the provincial government has granted over $7.7 Million in funding to assist in the construction of a new pool and sports facility. Pickering-Uxbridge MPP Peter Bethlenfalvy, made the announcement today while joined by Minister of Sport, Neil Lumsden, Mayor Dave Barton, members of council, township staff and members of the community.
“Our government is proud to support communities like Uxbridge by investing in infrastructure that delivers better services for people, while creating more opportunities for people to stay active,” said Neil Lumsden, Minister of Sport. “The new aquatic centre will provide safe, accessible and modern recreational spaces that will serve residents for years to come. Investments like this will protect local jobs, strengthen communities and build a more resilient economy.”
The Township of Uxbridge will also contribute an investment of over $7.7 million toward the project, matching the province’s commitment.
The new facility will replace the current structure and feature an eight-lane, 25-metre pool for swimming and fitness, a 10-by-15-metre therapy and teaching pool, and a multi-sport space designed for basketball, pickleball and fitness programming.
“Swimming is such a critical life skill, and the Uxpool ensures our kids can enjoy nature safely,” said Dave Barton, Mayor of Uxbridge. “This investment means we can continue offering swim programs, camps, and certifications for generations to come. Thank you to Minister Lumsden and MPP Peter Bethlenfalvy for making this possible — one of the most important projects in Uxbridge’s history.”
Ward 3 Councillor and Parks, Facilities, and Tourism Committee Council Representative, Zed Pickering commented on the announcement, “UxPool has long been a vital part of our community, centrally located in Ward 3, it’s accessible, familiar, and deeply valued. I learned to swim there, and that personal connection reinforces what I and the rest of council know to be true, future generations deserve the same opportunity to grow, connect, and thrive in a space that’s central to our town. Having the future UxPool where it is ensures it remains a cornerstone of Uxbridge life for years to come.”
This partnership between the Province of Ontario and the Township of Uxbridge represents a shared commitment to building healthy, active, and resilient communities for the future. Further details regarding timelines and additional information will be shared as the project progresses.
