Due to high winds, the Township advises residents that roads may be snow-covered and slippery, with periods of reduced visibility.
With fresh snowfall and wind gusts reaching up to 45 km/h, road conditions in open areas have deteriorated rapidly.
As of 2:00 p.m. today, police are advising drivers to avoid Lake Ridge Road near Scugog Line 12 due to extremely poor visibility and drifting snow.
Drifting snow is also rapidly worsening across other open rural roads.
For safety reasons, the Township will temporarily remove snowplows from rural roads at approximately 4:00 p.m. today until wind conditions improve. Operating plows during whiteout conditions poses a significant risk to both operators and the public.
Conditions are changing quickly. Residents are strongly encouraged to stay off the roads unless travel is absolutely necessary.
Crews will resume full winter maintenance operations as soon as it is safe to do so. Please stay safe and avoid unnecessary risks.
This Significant Weather Event designation will be reviewed and updated tomorrow, December 31, 2025.
