The Township of Uxbridge is proud to announce that it has been awarded the Healthy Water Award by the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA) at the 43rd Annual Conservation Awards, held on October 7th, 2025.

The Healthy Water Award recognizes outstanding projects that enhance, support, or protect water quality within the Lake Simcoe watershed. The Township earned this distinction for its South Balsam Stormwater Pond Upgrade Project, a forward-thinking initiative that improves local water management and helps safeguard the watershed for generations to come.

As part of the project, the Township installed 67 pre-treatment devices in existing catch basins to prevent sediment scouring and capture debris for easy removal during routine maintenance. This innovative, cost-effective approach minimizes disruption while extending the stormwater pond’s lifespan and improving water quality.

“This project reflects our Township’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure and keeping our water clean through stormwater ponds,” said Mayor Dave Barton. “This wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our partners, including the Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario, and the valuable advice from Rob Baldwin and the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA).”

In addition to the Township’s recognition, the Rotary Club of Uxbridge received the Healthy Community Award in celebration of its long-standing commitment to environmental and community initiatives. The Club’s contributions include tree planting projects, the Bonner Fields Bioswale initiative, and, most recently, the Fields of Uxbridge Mini Forest Project. The Township extends its congratulations to the Rotary Club for its continued dedication and impact.
