Uxbridge and Scugog Townships are pleased to announce significant progress on the new Animal Shelter. Following a comprehensive procurement process, a construction budget of $3.3 million has been approved by both councils, with a total project budget, including contingencies, of $3.8 million.
The new 6,457-square-foot facility will feature dedicated spaces for dogs and cats, outdoor exercise areas, quarantine and isolation rooms, and maternity spaces, among other amenities. The shelter has been designed with long-term sustainability in mind and is expected to serve the community for at least 30 years.
To commemorate this important milestone, a sod-turning event has been scheduled for Tuesday, December 2nd at 3:00 p.m. at the new site at 5500 Lakeridge Road, Uxbridge.
Construction of the new shelter will continue throughout the winter months. Uxbridge and Scugog Townships anticipate substantial completion of the building by mid-October 2026, with full occupancy scheduled for December 31, 2026. The townships look forward to the continued partnership as the project advances and ultimately provides services to both communities.
