Uxpool is now open with new programming and protocols in place to manage COVID-19.

To meet the Durham Region Public Health requirements, we are limiting the number of users in our pool at any one time. We have implemented rules for users and continue with our cleaning procedures to help reduce the spread of the virus.

Memberships and pay-as-you-go will be accepted for admission. All swimmers must book their swim time in advance. We are offering limited programming and will be updating our programming schedules frequently to respond to user requests.

Pool users are expected to wear a facemask when in the building but not in the water. Swimmers must wear their bathing suit to the pool under their clothes. Change rooms are available after the swimming session to change out of wet bathing suits.

Pre-requisite: 13 yrs of age and/or Bronze Star

Step 2: Bronze Cross and Standard First Aid with CPR 'C'

Pre-requisite:  Bronze Medallion

NOTE: Emergency First Aid is required.  We offer the higher level of Standard First Aid with the course for your convenience.

Step 3: Red Cross Instructor

The New Water Safety Instructor has 4 components within the course. All material and course fees are included.

  • Skills Evaluation – done in 2 parts
  • On-Line Course – requires 14–20 hours of work completed during student's own time
  • Assistant Teaching – minimum 8 hours required. On-Line portion must be completed prior to beginning this aspect.
  • Pool and Classroom – Time spent with the Instructor Trainer to complete the course.

Pre-requisites:  15 yrs of age, Swim Kids 10, Bronze Cross

Step 3: NLS - The National Lifeguard Service Award

This award builds on the fundamental principles taught in the previous lifesaving awards. Pre-requisites:  Bronze Cross, 15 yrs of age (minimum) and a current Standard First aid course

Step 4: Lifesaving Society Instructor

Pre-requisites:  Bronze Cross, 16 yrs of age (minimum)

Step 5: Maintenance

Recertification is required every two years to maintain active status in the following areas:

Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Recertification

This course is designed to recertify a Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Award.

NLS Recertification Course

Candidates should be prepared for new standards to be evaluated, including timed items.

Standard First Aid/CPR 'C'

Providing comprehensive training covering all aspects of first aid and CPR, this course is for those who want an in-depth understanding of first aid including spinal injuries, medical/legal issues, heat or cold injuries, bone and joint injuries, abdominal and chest injuries as well as burns.  Including CPR 'C' certification and an introduction to the use of AEDs (Automated External Defibrillation), this course is recognized by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB).

Frequently Asked Questions:

What happens if I miss my swim time?

If you are late for your appointment time, you can enter the pool but will only be allowed to stay until the end of your original appointment. This allows staff to clean before the next round of swimmers arrives. If you miss your appointment you will have to rebook another time.

What should I expect when I come to the pool?

You must already have your bathing suit on when you arrive at the pool. No change rooms are available to put your swimming suit on.
Please enter through the Main doors on Parkside Dr. All visitors to the building must wear a mask as per Health Department directives. Check in at the Front Desk, follow directional arrows and signage and sanitize your hands.
After removing your street shoes and taking them with you, walk through the lobby and directly onto the pool deck. The Deck Monitor will actively complete the required contact tracing. Please be prepared to answer COVID-19 related questions about your health. You will remove the clothes you are wearing over your bathing suit and will stow your belongings in the area marked. Shower off using the deck shower. You will wait until the start of your appointed swim time and be assigned a lane or a position by a staff member.
At the end of your swim time leave the pool, don your mask, gather your belongings and go into the change room. Showers will NOT be available for use. After you have changed, leave the change room via the pool deck. You will be directed to the exit doors at the far end of the building (near the Curling Club). Speak to a staff member to help us accommodate this process if you have accessibility needs.

What COVD-19 measures are in place to protect users?

Visitors are required to wear a facemask when not in the water, and to sanitize their hands upon entering the building. Contact tracing will be completed for each person entering the building. Please be prepared to answer COVID-19 related questions for each member of your household attending the pool.
There will be two swimmers per lane to keep users physically distant from each other. The chlorine in the pool will kill the virus and render it inactive so it cannot be transmitted through the water.
Access to our change rooms will be limited, and change rooms and washrooms will be cleaned between swimming sessions. Showers will NOT be available.
Staff will wear masks and eye protection when walking/standing on the deck and maintain a physical distance from users.

What will happen to the membership fees I have already paid?

We have reinstated memberships. All memberships were placed on hold and extended during the closure.

How can I pay for my swimming session?

You will have noticed that you registration for fitness programs shows a balance of zero. This will allow you to use either your membership or pay-as-you-go options. Payment is due upon entry to the pool. We accept credit card, debit, cash and cheque.
