Mayor Dave’s Q&A Video

October Newsletter Video

This month, Mayor Dave shares updates on the upcoming budget meeting, the Santa Claus Parade, and the public sessions for the official plan review, and also answers residents’ questions.

Updates from Council

Mayor, Dave Barton:

I’d love to hear from you! If you have questions about local issues, upcoming events, or anything else on your mind, send them my way. Just email mayor@uxbridge.ca with the subject line "Mayor's Q&A." If your question is for a specific councillor, I'm happy to have them join the next video segment as well! I’ll be answering selected questions in a video next month. Looking forward to your submissions. Let’s keep the conversation going!

Regional Councillor, Bruce Garrod:

October was every bit as busy as expected.

Last month, I mentioned that a critical Transit Executive Committee meeting would be taking place at the Region this month.

I am very pleased to report that my motion to ensure on-demand transit will continue to be available and expanded in Uxbridge as we move toward 2026 was approved. Fixed routes and on-demand services continue to set record ridership levels. The work of our Transit Ambassadors, along with local events and engagement at the high school, is clearly paying dividends.

I was also honoured to represent Uxbridge at the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority Awards Gala. I had the privilege of presenting a Fresh Water Award to the Township’s Public Works team for their efforts to reduce the flow of phosphorus into Lake Simcoe. In addition, our own Uxbridge Rotary Club was recognized for its ongoing environmental stewardship, ranging from tree plantings to eliminating almost all waste at the annual Wings and Pizza Night.

Readers may recall the Social Services “diagnose before prescribe” initiative. Food insecurity ranked as the second-highest concern. I recently met with the co-chairs of Loaves and Fishes to better understand their operations and their interest in working more closely with the Township. I also met with Feed the Need Durham, a Regionally supported organization, and have started efforts to strengthen the connection between their operations and local initiatives.

Finally, and on a related note, the number one issue identified in the social services analysis was the lack of affordable housing in Uxbridge. Last week, I met with senior management from Durham Region Social Services to seek their support in encouraging the Kindred Works apartment development on Main Street to accelerate its timeline. I will provide further updates on this important project in future newsletters.

Ward 1 Councillor, Pam Beach:

The Siloam Bridge is expected to be completed by the end of November.

New pavement has been installed on the 2nd Concession, from just south of Highway 47 down to Webb Road.

Paving has also been completed on Highway 47 from Goodwood to Durham/York 30.

November 27 - Photos with Santa
Get into the holiday spirit with a special visit from Santa Claus at the Goodwood Community Centre on November 27th from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.! Families can meet Santa and take festive photos to remember, and pets are welcome from 7:00 to 7:30 p.m. Entry is by donation, making it a fun and heartwarming way to kick off the season.

Lastly, Goodwood Lions 2026 calendars are available for purchase through any group member.

Ward 2 Councillor, Gord Shreeve:

It has been very rewarding to work with our Township's Public Works Department this Council term on behalf of residents to help bring many improvements to roads throughout Ward 2! The photo below shows just one of this fall's resurfacing projects on Zephyr Road, west of Regional Road 39.

Congratulations to the Zephyr Scott Lions on becoming a recognized, chartered club on Saturday October 25th at the Zephyr Community Centre where I had the privilege of bringing remarks on behalf of Uxbridge Township. The Club's motto is: WE SERVE and its members have already brought so many positive events to Zephyr and surrounding communities. The Udora-Leaskdale Lions have been their sponsoring Club. What a great example of dedicated, generous service they have set, donating funds to improve the Leaskdale Park and to the development of the new Oak Valley Health Uxbridge Hospital.

Ward 3 Councillor, Zed Pickering:

I hope you all had a lovely autumn in the Township of Uxbridge. Though the leaves have all nearly dropped and winds continue to get cooler, the warmth of our community's spirit remains, ushering in a November that will allow for great connection, celebration and remembrance.

A Time for Reflection and Remembrance:

November is a month for reflection—a time when we pause to honour those who have served and sacrificed for our freedoms. As Remembrance Day approaches, let's take a moment to remember the courage, dedication, and resilience of Canada’s veterans and active service members.

Whether you attend a local ceremony, wear a poppy, or simply take a quiet moment of silence on November 11, your act of remembrance helps keep the stories of service and sacrifice alive for future generations. A special thank you to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 170 (Uxbridge) and organizations like Uxbridge Honour our Veterans Banner Committee for their stewardship and dedication.

Shop Local This Holiday Season:

As we turn our thoughts toward the holidays, let’s remember the strength and spirit of our local businesses. Uxbridge is home to many incredible shops, makers, and service providers who contribute so much to our community year-round.

When you choose to shop local, you’re not only finding unique gifts—you’re supporting jobs, families, and the heart of our small-town economy. From handcrafted goods to local produce and one-of-a-kind experiences, every purchase made close to home helps keep Uxbridge thriving. Consider exploring our downtown merchants, artisan markets, and community pop-ups this season—you might just find something special while giving back to your neighbours.

Winter Parking Reminder:

As winter weather approaches, we want to extend a sincere thank you to all residents who are helping us keep Uxbridge’s roads safe and clear. A reminder that winter parking restrictions are in effect from November 1 through April 1, which means on-street parking is not permitted overnight.

Your cooperation makes a real difference. It allows our snow clearing crews to work efficiently and safely during storms, ensuring that emergency routes and local roads remain accessible for everyone. Thank you for your continued patience and understanding as we navigate another beautiful winter together.

Ward 4 Councillor, Willie Popp:

It was a busy month for the Uxbridge BIA, with both the Boots and Bling Ladies’ Night and the Spooky Saturday Treat-or-Treat event. Both were hugely successful and well attended. A big thank-you to all the businesses involved and to everyone who helped make these events happen, great work all around!

As chair of Public Works, here are some updates on ongoing projects:

Toronto Street Multi-Use Path:

All the curbs, sidewalks, and tactile plates are done. About two-thirds of the path has been dug out and filled with a base layer, and the last third is being worked on now. We hope to lay asphalt in the middle of next week, weather permitting.

South Balsam Storm Pond:

The pond liner is in place, most of the trees and shrubs are planted, and the safety fence is up. Workers are now finishing the paths and cleaning up the site.

Cemetery Road:

Curbs and sidewalks are finished, and the base asphalt is down. Topsoil and grass are being finished this week. The final asphalt layer is planned for mid-next week, weather permitting, followed by painting the lines.

Ward 5 Councillor, Todd Snooks:

The morning of Saturday October 25, 2025 saw the Uxbridge Rotary Club along with more than 60 members of the community and Regional Councillor Garrod, Councillor Pickering and myself plant 3 pocket forests in the King Street Parkette. With many hands the work was made lighter, and the group managed to complete the planting in under an hour.

This greenspace will only improve as the years pass and the trees mature.  Town staff will continue to maintain grass cutting, provide seasonal benches and a garbage receptacle while the Rotary Club will continue to take lead over the next three years that the amazing volunteers keep an eye on the fenced in trees and shrubs ensuring the success of the project.

Thanks to the Rotary Club for their work on this project and to each participant from the youth to the more senior who made this event a huge success!
