Durham Region Black History Month celebration returns February 1

Durham Region’s Black History Month celebration, Together We Rise Durham: Black History, Intersectionality and Joy, returns on February 1, in-person from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Complex, Banquet Hall, 1874 Valley Farm Road, in Pickering.

The celebration will feature live performances; and a panel discussion on Black history and how intersectionality and Black joy have shaped their professional and personal lives.

Public Encouraged to Attend Council’s Budget Review Meetings

The Township of Uxbridge Council continues to work on the 2024/2025 Municipal Budget and will be hosting a series of budget review meetings this January. Budget negotiations are open to the public and community members are encouraged to attend.  

The budget review meetings will be taking place on the following dates:  

  • Tues. January 9, 2024, from 1:00-5:00pm 
  • Thurs. January 11, 2024, from 1:00-5:00pm 
  • Tues. January 16, 2024, from 1:00-5:00pm 
  • Thurs. January 18, 2024, from 1:00-5:00pm

Residents are invited to join Durham Region’s Chief Administrative Officer, Commissioner of Finance and Treasurer and other members of the Region’s senior leadership team, at the virtual 2024 Budget Town Hall on Thursday, January 11 at 6:30 p.m.

Convenient curbside natural Christmas tree collection in January 2024

When the holidays are over, Durham Region will provide its annual curbside collection of natural Christmas trees. Natural Christmas trees will be composted with leaf and yard waste.

When and where:

  • Ajax and Pickering: Christmas tree collection will be on regular collection days during the weeks of January 8 and 15 only.
  • Brock, Clarington, Scugog and Uxbridge: Christmas tree collection will take place on Monday, January 8 and Monday, January 15 only.
