Nominations
Nominations may be filed in person or by an agent with the Office of the Clerk beginning on Friday, May 1, 2026 until Thursday, August 20, 2026, during regular business hours (Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) and on Nomination Day, Friday, August 21, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
In accordance with the Municipal Elections Act, nominations must be filed using the prescribed forms, accompanied by the prescribed nomination filing fee and nominations for the office of the Mayor or Council must be endorsed by at least 25 persons. The filing fee is $200.00 for the office of Mayor and $100.00 for all other offices. The filing fee is payable by cash, debit, or certified cheque.
If a nomination for a candidate is filed by an agent, a letter must be submitted at the time of filing which authorizes the agent to file on behalf of the candidate. The letter must be signed by the candidate, and commissioned or notarized by a person authorized under the Commissioners for Taking Affidavits Act or Notaries Act. In addition to this letter, an agent must also provide a copy of the candidate's ID to be retained on file.
No person who proposes to be a candidate may solicit or accept contributions for election purposes or incur campaign expenses until a nomination paper has been filed.
To run for office, you must be eligible to vote in the election. On the day you file your nomination, you must be a Canadian citizen aged 18 or older, qualify as a resident or non-resident elector (see above on eligibility to vote), and not ineligible under the Municipal Election Act or any other Act or otherwise prohibited by law to be nominated for or to hold the office.
Candidates for the following offices may register at the Township of Uxbridge Municipal offices:
- Mayor
- Regional Councillor
- Ward Councillor for Ward 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5
- Trustee, Durham Catholic District School Board (English Separate)
Candidates for the following office must register at the Township of Scugog, 181 Perry Street, Port Perry, ON.
- Trustee, Durham District School Board (English Public)
Candidates for the following offices must register at the City of Oshawa, 50 Centre St. S., Oshawa, ON. Prospective candidates are encouraged to make an appointment during regular business hours to file nomination paperwork with City Clerk Services at 905-436-3311 or clerks@oshawa.ca. Nomination paperwork must be filed in-person at Oshawa City Hall.
