Durham Region Black History Month celebration returns February 1

Durham Region’s Black History Month celebration, Together We Rise Durham: Black History, Intersectionality and Joy, returns on February 1, in-person from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Complex, Banquet Hall, 1874 Valley Farm Road, in Pickering.

The celebration will feature live performances; and a panel discussion on Black history and how intersectionality and Black joy have shaped their professional and personal lives.

Township Lifts Significant Weather Event Advisory

Improved weather conditions have aided Township Road maintenance crews as they work to clear roads, sidewalks and parking lots. As a result, the Township is lifting the advisory of a Significant Weather Event that was declared on January 9th.​

Drivers and pedestrians are still urged to be cautious as there are localized accumulations of melt water and the potential for icy conditions. Please drive according to the road conditions. ​

Status Update Regarding YDHR Leases

On January 8th, Township of Uxbridge Council directed staff to refrain from entering into a new train station lease with York Durham Heritage Railway (YDHR). YDHR vacated the property and returned the station to the Township, as per the terms of the agreement.

Under a separate lease, YDHR has use of the rail corridor and railyard lands until January 31, 2024, at which time they must vacate the property. If YDHR wishes to enter onto these lands after January 31, 2024, they will be required to...

Township Declares Significant Weather Event Due to Heavy Snow Accumulation

Based on the heavy snowfall, the Township wishes to advise residents that roads may be snow covered and slippery. Residents are asked to drive according to the weather conditions.

Roads, sidewalks and parking lots will be cleared as soon as crews are able to address them.
