The Township of Uxbridge extends its deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Susan Self on her passing. Mrs. Self left a legacy of public service and volunteering in her community. Mrs. Self was a Councillor for the Township of Uxbridge from 1989 to 1991 and served as the Township’s Regional Councillor from 1992 until 2006. Held annually, Rail Safety week (September 18-24) promotes awareness about rail safety and the risks of trespassing and not obeying signs and signals at crossings.  

In 2022 there were 66 avoidable deaths and 43 serious injuries as a result of railway- crossing and trespassing incidents.  

Tips to 'Be Rail Smart':

  • Stop a safe distance from tracks and crossings
  • Look both ways to ensure trains are not approaching
  • Listen for approaching trains

Reconstruction of South Balsam Pond Update

The South Balsam Pond has been designed and a permit from Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority has been received. We are still waiting for the Ministry of Environment Conservation and Parks permit.

The tender documents are complete, however given the time of year it has been decided to wait until Spring of 2024 to start construction. The project will be tendered in January/February 2024.

Cemetery Road Reconstruction Update

As the Township has not communicated with the residents of Cemetery Road in a while, we thought an update was appropriate.

The design and tender documents are complete, and the Lake Simcoe Conservation Authority permit has been received. We are still waiting for the Ministry of Environment Conservation and Parks permit.

Given the delay in securing the MECP permit and rather than try to deal with delays due to fall/winter weather, the first section of the road will be tendered in January/February...
