Sidewalk Inspections Underway in the Township of Uxbridge May 2025

During the week of May 12th a contractor for the Township of Uxbridge will be assessing the condition of local sidewalks. The contractor will be looking for uneven or broken sections of sidewalk and identifying those which pose a trip hazard or other adverse conditions.

The contractor will be using a golf-cart to conduct the inspection, and may mark portions of the sidewalk with spray paint.

The results of the inspection will be used to create a maintenance plan for problem sidewalk areas.

Township Announces Relocation of “Spirit Bear” Sculpture

After today, community members may notice a change outside Town Hall. The “Spirit Bear” sculpture, which has stood outside the building since 2008, is being relocated.

Created by the late artist Gerd Untermann during a 2008 sculpture symposium alongside artists Fly Freeman and Wynn Walters, Spirit Bear has been a longstanding piece of public art in the community for over 15 years.

Improving the sightline for drivers making left turns

Whitby, Ontario – Turning left at busy intersections just got easier. Durham Region is redesigning designated intersections to incorporate Positive Offset Left Turns (POLTs) as part of the Durham Vision Zero Strategic Road Safety Action Plan. POLTs move the left-turn lanes farther to the left, so drivers trying to turn left can see oncoming traffic better and avoid blocking each other’s view.
